Soul Master Preview: Genre Bending Action

My preview of Soul Master is up! Well actually... it has been up for awhile now, I just got around to plugging it here. I got to try out Soul Master in a preview build a week before the closed beta began. Now I'm not a big fan of RTS games, but the arcade beat 'em up action had my attention, so I decided to give it a try. While the preview build lacked a lot of options and features, I really enjoyed the gameplay since my beat 'em up skills came in good use to mask my crappy micro management skills.

Fun & Free - Freeware games from Japan #2

Hey, all my blog visitors (yeah, all five of you guys!) It's time for another bunch of freeware games... FROM JAPAN! I brought a little bit of something for everyone this time around, and. Today's featured freeware games are Cave Story, Guardian of Paradise and Gunroar, all great freeware titles that would pass off as commercial games... sort of.

Status update - 07/19/2010

Time for another one of these posts.

Here's whats on the table for me this week: Today I'm trying out Alien Swarm, a top-down arcade style shooter that's been released by Valve for free. It was made by the same mod team that created the Alien Swarm mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. It looks like a great time waster so I'll definitely be playing it. That is, if I can actually get the download started...

Status update - 07/14/2010

Looks like I'm gonna be busy as a beaver for the next couple of weeks! I just went through a product tour for Hero: 108 Online, a quirky action MMO based on a cartoon with the same name. The game seems... decent. Nothing that's gonna make you wanna quit WoW, of course. The game seemed very tailored to fans of the show and casual gamers. My product tour should be up soon, but also expect a preview article afterwards.

I got set up with another product tour with another MMO title I've been waiting for called Soul Master. It mixes arcade action with RTS and MMORPG features. Such an interesting mix of genres, indeed. Can't wait to play it. Games that are also on my waiting list include FreeJack, that online racing game based on Parkour/Free Running with a Jet Set Radio vibe. The closed beta test SHOULD be sometime this month, but no announcements have been made yet. There's also closed beta for Vindictus

Now that Alaplaya has publishing rights for S4 League in US territories, I can take my S4 League review off hiatus.

That's about it. No scheduled gaming for me this week.

Fun & Free - Freeware games from Japan #1

There are a lot of freeware games out there, but a lot of good ones are available straight from Japan. Finding games like these took me bit of digging (since I don’t know Japanese,) but I managed to pluck a few interesting freeware games over the years that I still play every now and then as great time wasters. Here's a quick bunch of games with many different genres you should give a try.

Audition Season 2 - Review

My latest review for OnRPG.com is up. It was a review I did on Audition, an online music game hosted by Redbana, Alaplaya, Asiasoft and several other gaming portals. I played it a couple years back when it was still being tested by the original publishers and the game has pretty fun. I came back to it recently to see the things that have changed. It's still just as good as it used to be, but some of the issues the game has had way been then are still around.
